Power supply

A power supply is an electrical device that offers electric power to an electrical load such as laptop computer, server, or other electronic devices. The main function of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load.

In order to power the motherboard, CPU, and other peripherals, the desktop computer power supply transforms alternating current (AC) from a wall socket of mains energy into low-voltage direct current (DC). For the computer to operate steadily, a number of direct-current voltages are needed, and they must be precisely controlled.

Although it may not be the most talked-about PC part, the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is an essential component of any desktop. Powering your complete system is a crucial function, and choosing the incorrect one could be expensive.
